After the resort closed in 1996, all the accomodation was demolished, along with some of the entertainment buildings and houses were bulit on the land. The front buildings facing the pleasure park were retained. These buildings included the Boulevard shopping street and the indoor and outdoor pools. A lot of damage is visible from the street, including fallen over guttering pipes and overgrown ground.
After the last season in 1996, the pools opened up again for a brief spell, as shown below in the picture. This is a scan of a leaflet advertising Barry Island things to do.
Contrary to popular belief, the site in not going to be demolished yet as it is being considered as an International Centre of Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure that is being proposed by the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC).
